Because your wedding is a Christian worship service, a certain measure of decorum must be maintained. At the service we are literally standing in the presence of God. Besides this, we are attempting to create a moment in time that is special and set apart from the every day occurrences of life.

Semi-formal to formal attire is therefore appropriate and casual attire is not.

The wedding is a time to make statements about love and commitment, not to make political statements. Buttons and ribbons showing support for a cause of any kind are therefore excluded.

Another issue concerning attire that should be considered is the wisdom of spending (by either the couple or the attendants) huge amounts of money to either rent or purchase clothes that are for show only and will only be worn one time. Some couples are choosing to have the bride's maids wear dresses that can be worn in other settings and the groomsmen wear suits which they already own rather than purchasing or renting tuxedos.

I will wear formal worship attire; an alb and stole.
