Though it is not the norm for Lutheran
weddings, it is very appropriate for communion to be served as part of the ceremony.
Many couples kneel at the communion rail following their exchanging of
vows to celebrate communion as a sign of the unity in and with Christ and to receive
together for the first time as husband and wife the forgiveness of God.
At times the entire congregation will take communion.
To share together, either as a couple or as a congregation, the
forgiveness and newness that comes as we celebrate Holy Communion can be a very special
part of the wedding service.
