The couple can rent, at most florists or party rental businesses, a unity candle. This is usually a candelabra that holds only 3 candles.

During the service the bride and groom each take one of the outside candles which are lit (The acolytes or family members can light these at the beginning of the service.) and light together the center candle. The outside candles are then blown out.

The symbolism that the families bless the union, that the two lives become one life, is very clear and can be very moving.
