Parish Education Report We have an active Sunday School program for children age 3 through High School. We have the opening in the Sanctuary at 9:15 and kids straggle in by 9:25. Fran Hansen plays the piano and Barbara Peterson leads the children in songs of the Christian faith. At 9:30 the children are excused to go to their class. Stephanie Clarkson averages four preschool students weekly in the church nursery room. Lynette Hecker is the teacher of the Kindergarten; first and second grade aged children. She averages five students weekly. Victoria Salwasser is the teacher for the children in grades third, fourth and fifth. She has about nine students weekly. Dale and Donna Ewing work together as the leaders of the sixth, seventh and eighth grade children. They have an average of six kids weekly. On any given Sunday, we have about 23 kids at Sunday School. We have 37 on the roster for Sunday School. Our goal is to have children attending weekly.
We are trying a different format for lessons this year. Class is held for three weeks and then there is a craft Sunday. Laura Nielsen and Debbie Pilegard alternate and assist each other. They have a creative touch and the kids enjoy the Bible based craft. The lessons are all Bible based and the kids are encouraged to bring their own Bibles to class. Linda Demant opens her home to the High School youth on a weekly basis and she is assisted by Andrew Severin. She does her own lesson planning and has ten to twelve kids weekly. The children did the Christmas program with many involved. The High School youth assisted with the worship service by taking the offering and were greeters on that Sunday. The children will also be involved in an Easter/Palm Sunday program. Everyone involved in the Sunday School program has a desire to teach the children the love of Jesus. We want the children to know that life may be difficult and growing up is hard but when you have Jesus - life is so much better.
