2nd Pastor: By now, most of us have heard that the seminarian that we had such high hopes of coming and being our 2nd pastor, has declined the honor. The ministry context that he feels called to is not what we are. It is too bad. He was a gem.
In light of this, the Bishop has suggested that we consider an interim call. Just like having an interim pastor during the period of pastoral vacancy, this would be an interim pastor during the period while we continue looking for our 2nd pastor. The council has asked the call committee if they would be the interviewing body for this position and they have agreed. The Bishop has a candidate for this position in mind and the call committee will begin the interview process right away.
Sunday School Building: As I write this there is a crew putting the stucco on the outside of the building. I can not wait for the day when Kelly will call on us to again step up to volunteer. My paint brush is at the ready! I own a power brush.
Substitute Preachers: One can not help but notice that there were several times toward the end of last year that we had a guest preacher even though I was leading worship. As my work load continues to grow this is an attempt at some pastoral self-care. When I take a day or two off during the week, something has to give. So, instead of not taking any time off, I bring in a guest preacher. I don’t plan on doing this all that often, but I thought that we should all know why it happens.
Easter Service: I am so very excited about the possibilities of our Easter worship this year. For the last several years we have had to split the congregation in the morning to fit everyone in the sanctuary. This year, we are going to go back to one service and worship together in the auditorium at the high school. We are going to include the evening Country Gospel service as well.
Because we are worshipping in a “non-church” building, there is a real opportunity here to get the un-churched to show up. Mailings will go out. Invitations will be given out. There will be an add on the radio station that the Country Gospel service advertises on. There is a committee of @ 20 members working on making this a joyous occasion. Your job is to invite, invite, invite.
I love you all, Pastor Paul Demant
